This week, I’m rounding out the character designs with the last of the head turn arounds. This time, it’s all about mean girls and cops.
Blair and Madison made their debut in Soul Chaser Betty: Slumber Party of DOOM! These two mean girls immediately take to picking on Betty on her first day of school. Cheerleaders and “Mean Girls” to the core, I wanted them to be instantly hateable (is that a word?).
Blair is the leader. This head cheerleader probably dates the star football player of the school, you know the type. She’s an upper classman, so I designed her to look older and more sophisticated and stylish than everyone’s favorite tomboy and book worm. I almost caller her “Sloane” and that name just screamed “80s mean girl.”
Madison is Blair’s lackey. Not as tall and statuesque as her friend, she makes up for her pint-size with verve and moxy, and probably a lot of Napoleon syndrome. Then again, are they really friends? I think Madison is more of a hanger on, and would probably turn on Blair in a second.
Sheriff Hanson made his debut in the original Soul Chaser Betty graphic novel. Supposedly the man in charge of the law, he’s at a loss when it comes to the monsters and boogey men down on Grammy’s farm. Armstrong’s resident sheriff appears in the new Soul Chaser Betty story, so so he needed a design update to bring him into line with the other characters. Hanson is an interesting character.
These can all now be found in the Soul Chaser Betty Design Gallery.
That’s it for the head turn arounds — the next design update will be all about costumes!
