Hey, let’s keep working through that backlog of art, eh BMAN?
This week it’s all about supporting characters from Soul Chaser Betty: Slumber Party of DOOM! First up, it’s a special appearance by the baddies.
These characters appear in the dreamland of Nod, specifically within a dream Grammy experiences. That whole four page flashback is done in the style of a 1930s newspaper adventure strip (complete with its own logo and artist signature). So, this seemed like a good opportunity to push myself and try some character designs that felt different.
First up was the “Studious Man,” a well-dressed Nazi agent scouring the globe for supernatural relics that might aid the Third Reich’s coming war plans.

Next up, his two henchmen, starting with the “Stinker.” This guy is the gunman of the baddies, definitely a rat-like and despicable man.

A baddie from Soul Chaser Betty: Slumber Party of DOOM! Stinker is one of the henchmen that appears in a sort of flashback sequence in the dreamland of Nod. I wanted these characters to really be distinct!
The “Heavy” is the muscle of the group (can you tell I didn’t give these characters actual names?). This guy is big, silent, and basically a wall of muscle who wants nothing more than a chance to show how powerful he is.

Another baddie that appears in Soul Chaser Betty: Slumber Party of DOOM! The Heavy was another attempt to push my character designs into a more cartoony and distinctive look.
*** Slight SPOILER WARNING *** for those who haven’t read Slumber Party of DOOM! yet. (What are you waiting for?) But, this next character design is a little twist in the book.
Ok, you still reading? Slumber Party of DOOM! features an appearance by everyone’s favorite grandma—back when she was a young woman and working for a mysterious organization in pre-war Europe.

That’s it for this week! More designs coming soon, including costume and creature designs. And of course, these latest have been added to the Soul Chaser Betty Design Gallery!
