Slumber Party of DOOM! Cover Pencils and Inks

It’s been a bit since I’ve updated the site. Why? The flu, that’s why. I haven’t been sick since 2019, not with all the masking and distancing. So when I finally got hit with a cold (not Covid), it hit me hard. 3 weeks later and I’m still recovering, so updating the site just had to wait.

But this week it’s all about getting back to posting some art. Last time, I was showing off some clean cover art for Curse of the Feral Gods, so let’s continue with the trend with Soul Chaser Betty: Slumber Party of DOOM!

I love to make the covers a wrap-around illustration. I mean, who wants an ad on the back of their book? So it’s always a challenge to make the covers work as both a front and back cover image.
I wanted to evoke some classic horror movie vibes, and channel just a little bit of Dawn of the Dead and other zombie movies from the time period.
Inking the covers is always a nice change of pace from doing interior panels. I treat these more like full illustrations and add as much detail as I can. However, since the image is going to be painted, I leave off just about all the shading and shadowing and keep it fairly “flat” at this stage.

Thanks for checking these out. Of course, the pencils have been added to the Drawings Gallery and the inks to the Pen and Inks Gallery. The color versions will be coming soon.

And be on the lookout for updates about my next comic project, which I am already penciling. Hint, there’s spaceships!
