Soul Chaser Betty: The Haunting of the Renegade Blades Inks Preview (part 1)!
Ok, gather round—I’ve got more art to share from the latest Soul Chaser Betty adventure: The Haunting of the Renegade Blades. This time, it’s a preview of the inks.
Last time, we learned that Betty and her friends were being attacked by the spirits of two Soul Chasers who still linger in the Land of Nod. And it all goes down on Halloween night.
So here’s some of the pencils I previously shared from this spooky adventure, but now you can use the handles on the images to slide back and forth between the original pencils and the inks!
Keith and Tonya seem to have coordinated their Halloween costumes… Teenwolf, meet bad kitty. Rawr!
Yeah, Betty’s not the sort to don a “sexy” Halloween costume. She’s here for the horror movie gore, dude!
Here’s an example of how I’m using 3D models to help with background work. This helps me figure out my scenes and locations, which have always been my shortcoming. But even with the models, I’m still inking all the backgrounds by hand!
This panel took sooooo long. It was fun to try and make each ghoulie in the background a unique character, but crowd scenes are super difficult. And there are so many scenes like this in the new book!
Another example of a crowd of ghoulies! Plus, I’m trying to be more dynamic with my foreshortening.
Another example of using 3D to make the backgrounds. Keen eyed readers may recognize the Soul Chaser fortress from the original graphic novel. Now, I’ve built it in 3D for its appearance in the new story.
That’s all for this update. I’m currently working on painting all the pages—17 pages of 28 already done! After that, I’ll be starting the cover, so this book is getting close to finished!
Next time: Swing back to see more inks. Plus, I look forward to sharing previews of the finished page art real soon!
