This area is chock full of sketches I’ve done for fans at shows over the years, as well as some “fan art” I’ve done just for fun.
You can tap each one to see more detail, and tap the larger image for a description.
You've Been Served
It seems Mr. Fett has been the target of quite a few paternity suits by wayward clones after the fall of the Republic. After all, a simple genetic test will show they’re related to the bounty hunter! I think this is going to end up getting pretty ugly in the Imperial courts.
Friends of Nature
A commission featuring two characters super in tune with nature hanging out and catching a nap. Aerith Gainsborough from Final Fantasy VII and Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro.
Elf Warrior
A commission from Anime Central 2013. I believe this one was done for an RPG character, (or for someone's original character of some kind). The woman who commissioned me had lots of backstory and details, including the hair pins.
Let Me Help
Ok, this one was a fun commission of everyone's favorite time lord, Doctor Who (David Tennant) and Homura Akemi, a time jumping magical girl from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Perhaps the good doctor can use his sonic screwdriver to fix Akemi's time jump shield?
Rwby and Magic Knight Rayearth Commission 2016
A commission from 2016 featuring Ruby from RWBY and Hikaru from Magic Knight Rayearth having some cookies. Well, someone's enjoying them, at least.
KanColle Shimakaze Commission 2015
A commission from back in 2015 featuring Shimakaze from Kantai Collection: KanColle in a more traditional (and modest) school girl outfit.
Captain America - My North Star
Captain Steve Rogers keeps the newspaper photo of his north star in his compass: Peggy Carter, his first love. This was a digital commission where I attempted to replicate my Copic marker look.
Nene Romanova Bubblegum Crises
Nene from Bubblegum Crises showing off an engagement ring. Since the original series never really got a proper ending, the fan who commissioned this wanted to see Nene get the ending she deserved - true love.
septerra-core-emperor-inks
A commission for a fan of Septerra Core. Emperor Aspertine of the Chosen was an interesting character to revisit. Originally designed by the talented Kye, the in-game model never really lived up to the detail and organic-ness of his concept, due to the limitations of the day. For this piece, I decided to try and bring some of that detail back to the character.
Septerra Core The Lull Before the Storm Inks
These inks were commissioned by a fan as a gift. It was a lot of fun to revisit characters (Maya, Selina, & Araym) that I haven't drawn since the early 2000s.
Ghost in the Shell - Kusanagi on the Beach
This was a fun commission. At 11x14, this is the largest Copic piece that I've done. Incorporating the Laughing Man logo into the bathing suit was a cool challenge!
My Hero Academia Froppy Tongue Tied
A long-time patron commissioned this Froppy piece, 11x8.5 inks and Copics. She's a fun character to draw, and I enjoyed busting out the larger brushes to ink the hair.
Conan Father's Day by CROM!
This was commissioned by a lad named Conan, who wanted a Father's Day card for his father, who was clearly a fan of ol' Robert E Howard.
Lara Croft and Samus (Metroid)
So, two famous video game gals walk into a bar (stop me if you'd heard this one.) Both have had their franchises recently rebooted / re-launched. But while one (Lara) has been lauded, the other maybe not so much. This was a fun commission I did from a very specific request from a fan of both.
Fate/Grand Order Mordred Ready for Bed
I get a lot of interesting commissions at cons! This one came from a long time patron who likes to come up with clever ideas for each scene. I added the helmet to balance the pic, and because it was just looked cool and I wanted to draw it...
Lone Wolf & Cub - 2011
A con sketch commission. It was this piece that made me break out some new pens that a friend had given me. I had tried them out previously, but wasn't really taken by them. But this commission called for a more brushy look, so I gave them another try. I fell in love with the pens and embarked on a bunch of other experimentation. I guess sometime you just need to give things a second try...
Hello! What's This? - 2012
I love the old Hobbit cartoon and I don't care who knows it (Some people hate it). The animation studio that did it went on to form the core of Studio Ghibli (Totoro, Laputa, Spirited Away, etc.) To this day I still enjoy watching it from time to time, so long as it's the original version with all the correct sound effects, and not the abomination that was released on DVD and BLu-Ray...
Hell, What's This? (color)
A colored version of my Hobbit inks. This was one of my first experiments with Copics, and I probably should have used something else for the flat background color. But, it was fun capturing the style of the old cartoon!
Hellboy - 2011
This was based on a sketch of one of my favorite action figures. I made a decision NOT to try and ink this in the style of Mike Mignola, although I would like to try something in that vein sometime.
Darth Vader - 2011
This one was done for a friend and fellow artist alley attendee, Dave Gruba. He likes to collect Star Wars sketches, and I figured I do something a little different - Vader without the mask.
The Plague: Rip - 2011
"Hobo With A Shotgun" is one of my favorite WTF movies ever. And "The Plague," a pair of demon fighting bounty hunters, was the best part - the WTF icing on the WTF cake.
The Plague: Grinder - 2011
Grind! Grinder takes out his foes by putting a lasso around their neck, and then shooting the other end of the rope into the ceiling with a harpoon gun. Classic.
The Mouth of Sauron - 2011
Ink lends itself quite well to the forces of the Dark Lord. I'd like to do some other evil stuff in this vein, but with original creatures. This came out of me just doing some inked sketches for fun and experimentation, so it was nice to do something a bit different.
Ghost Rider - 2011
This was done for a fan right on a blank "Sketch Cover" of a Ghost Rider comic. The actual comic has a blank white cover with just the logos, leaving room for a con artist to draw a cover to taste. I was originally asked to do a robotic Ghost Rider, but I ended up doing something a bit different... oops.
Portrait - 2010
A con sketch commission where I was just asked to something fun with hair. My tiny Microns were used on this one.
Phoenix - 2010
I don't often get asked to do traditional superhero stuff at cons, but sometimes it can be fun. This was with my old pens.
Saber Lily - The Sword in the Stone - 2011
This one was for a long time friend and good supporter of us "art alley rats." I decided to have some fun experimenting with cross hatch patterns on the rocks.
Kon vs Kero-Chan - 2011
This was a commission request to have two "beloved" anime mascots fight each other in a battle royale - Kon from Bleach versus Kero-chan from Cardcaptor Sakura.
Nanako Kuroi - Luck Star - 2012
Sometimes I get very specific requests for commissions at shows. In this case, it was for Nanako Kuroi from Lucky Star, sitting at her teacher's desk, looking at a potential valentine love letter - What could be in it? Who could have sent it? Will she finally be lucky in love?
Griffon - 2011
One of my favorite anime series is Patlabor. This was a sketch of the principle "bad guy" of the TV series. I thought it would be fun to fill in the "shiny blacks."
Linneage RPG Character - 2010
I often get quite a few requests for renderings of RPG and MMORPG characters at cons. While there are often super heroes, I love it when they are more fantasy than spandex, like this player character from Lineage.
Duenan and Briarios - 1993?
I think this piece of fan art was from '93. I decided to do a picture that would probably sell at the art show I was attending, and therefore pay for the weekend. I did a colored pencil version of this and it fulfilled its mission nicely.
Charity Sketch Cards - 2010
These were small sketch cards done for charity. I don't remember what the show was.
Cowboy Boots - 2010
At ACEN 2010 an fan was having artists draw anything they wanted, so long as it had a woman in cowboy boots. She got some interesting responses from artists, and this was my entry.
Buffy - 2009
This was for a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Buffy done in my style.
Dresden-Vania - 2009
This sketch was done by request for a good friend and supporter of artists in every artist alley in the Chicago area. Its a mash up between the Dresden Files and the Castlevania series.
Cave Girl Sketch - 2008
A quick pencil sketch commission for Wizard World Chicago 08.
Go Go Godzilla! - 2008
A fan at Wizard World Chicago 08 had a sketchbook full of artists taking a crack at drawing Godzilla. Here was my entry.
Spooky - 2008
Some fans have very specific sketch requests at cons. This one, from Wizard World Chicago 08, was for a girl in her underwear searching a graveyard at night. Well, I'm always happy to oblige requests to draw girls in their underwear.
Kneeling Sword - 2008
This sketch was done for Anime Central '08.
Modest Cave Girl - 2008
This sketch was done for Capricon '08. I liked the sketch, and turned it into a more finished piece, Savage Cave Girl in the color illustrations gallery.
Dragon - 2007
This was done at a con for a someone who wanted a dragon picture for a friend. I like to make creatures such as dragons look a little different from the traditional style, yet retain some of those old tried and true touches.
Hula Girl - 2007
This is another inked sketch I did at a con for a friend and fan who likes to collect art. He wanted a waving hula girl, with just a hint of sexuality coming through.
Shadow Thief - 2007
I did this sketch, of a female thief in a seductive pose, for Capricon 07. Sometimes I like the sketches I do for cons for no other reason then they come out a bit different than my usual stuff.
Anime Sword - 2007
Another sketch I did for Anime Central '07. This was me trying to go full on "Anime Mode" and get some practice in inking traditionally, instead of digitally.
Martian Princess - 2006
It had been a while since I had worked on any sketches based on Barsoom. This one was done for a fan at Reactor 06. I like the way it turned out.
Martian Harem Commission
This was done for a fan who really liked my Martian Harem color piece. He wanted another Martian princess done in the same style. 8.5x11 inch pen and ink.
Slave Girl Maya - 2007
This was a commissioned sketch I did for a long time fan of SepterraCore. This was great fun to do, and I really liked going back and re-visiting the character.
Blade Dancer Sketch - 2006
This was a pencil I did for a con back in 2006. While I liked it as a simple sketch, I eventually went back to it as a pose for a later color illustration (Martian Harem).
Tara of Mars ink - 2005/2007
This was a sketch I did at a con back in 2005. I had some free time at a different con recently, so I went ahead and inked the old pencil. It's not bad, but not really a great drawing to begin with.
