Gee, it’s been quiet around here since the release of Soul Chaser Betty: Slumber Party of DOOM! As usual, I’m working on a bunch of projects, and they’re keeping me pretty busy.
Well, it’s time to reveal one of those projects—SALVAGE HOUNDS!
This is a story and world that has been gestating for quite some time. Like Soul Chaser Betty, SALVAGE HOUNDS was first conceived as a video game idea way back in the olden days of 1999-2000. It never saw the light of day as a game, but the basic concept stuck with me. Now it’s time to dust it off, expand and re-tool it, and bring it to life in comic form!
SALVAGE HOUNDS is a science fiction story set in a junky, patchwork future, when nations and corporations have expanded throughout the solar system.
Meet the Hounds
SALVAGE HOUNDS follows the crew of The Mutt, a group of neer-do-wells making their living salvaging the detritus of civilization—the junk of the solar system’s frontier boomtowns and derelicts left in the aftermath of corporate battles. Their world is the fringe of the fringe, the frontier of the frontier. The crew of the Mutt are the metaphorical cast-offs of civilization earning their bread and butter from the literal cast-offs of civilization.
Welcome to the Moons of Jupiter
The outer solar system is the new rough and tumble frontier of civilization. Out here people get by with duct tape, well-meaning hope, and a lot of good old-fashioned luck. The nations and corporations of Earth are mining the asteroid belt and the moons of the gas giants, and frontier “boomtown” space stations dot the outer dark. But it’s not all puppies and peace—the corps wage war against their rivals, competing for rich resources the home world needs. Workers ship out here to live under the thumb of the mining operations, people just trying to make their way in the frontier.
But with the boom towns come other men and women, people who know how to make a buck, especially if they can live in the cracks between civilization. They call themselves entrepreneurs, but others might name them thieves, criminals, or pirates. But hey, out on the frontier the laws of the home world can get downright fuzzy…or maybe even ignored all together.
It’s the perfect life, especially for those with a past that might get them killed back on Earth…
Calling fans of Firefly, Lupin, and Gundam!
SALVAGE HOUNDS is a fun, gritty space adventure—one part Firefly, one part Lupin the Third, one part Gundam.
I’ve been working on writing and designing SALVAGE HOUNDS for the better part of eight months. The script for this 24 page story is ready to go and I’ve been toiling away on character designs, space suits, weapons, ships, and even mecha!
I’m pretty excited to get started on actual page art. In the coming weeks I’ll be sharing more information about the characters, the world, and the story, so stay tuned!
