Last week the good folks at Chronicle Chamber posted part one of their Phantom 2040 game retrospective, complete with an interview by yours truly about the making of the game.
This week it’s part two, with an update that adds tons of supplemental materials to their original post.
I had to go digging into the past for this interview, and while I was there I happened to scrounge up some stuff from the vault — and by vault, I mean a old packing box in the closet. I took some photos and scans of the stuff I found, including the original game design document, brainstorming notes, storyboards, and even pics of the posters that shipped in the original boxes. I even had materials that the Phantom 2040 animated series had sent us, including episode synopses and other “show bible” materials.
But what surprised me the most was that I had a mint-in-box Phantom 2040 SNES cartridge, still shrink wrapped! Never fear, it remains sealed for posterity!
Finally, a big thanks to the members of the Phantom 2040 team that helped me with remembering all the juicy details of the project. One of the animators even supplied some sprite art from the game!
